Thanks for the cover letter advice

Thank you to bushpigeon, New Kid on the Hallway, Dean Dad and Artichoke Heart for their detailed and lengthy constructive criticism and advice regarding cover letters. A special thanks to Dr. Camicao for setting the whole thing up. I will definitely attempt to incorporate your suggestions.

You're welcome! I didn't post a comment because I felt that the advice you got was outstanding. At Famous U, where I used to teach, graduate students going on the job market were mentored intensely with regards to cover letters. In the job searches I've been on, a large number of cover letters are quite extraordinary, from an organizational and rhetorical point of view. I truly believe that the "cover letter" performance can make a difference. It's worth laboring over because it is the very first suggestion.

I recommend you copy people's advice from your blog to keep, and then erase your post on this subject and I'll do the same. While I don't think you've written anything to be ashamed of in your blog, it would be awkward for a potential employer to google you out of curiosity and find the cover letter post and discussion. Think about it...

Clarification:

"It's worth laboring over because it is the very first suggestion."

I meant "...the very first impression."
