Yesterday my department had an outing at Ala-Archa, a mountainous state park outside of Bishkek. The climb up the mountain nearly killed me. I am still sore everywhere today.
You're out of shape! I remember the Otto who walked 12 miles a day in 114 degree heat just to go to the library. Were the mountains more rugged than those around here?
The mountains here go straight up at a very steep angle and keep going for thousands of feet. Imagine walking up Gray Hill for a mile. I still often walk 12 miles a day, but it is much cooler here.

Whoa, I take that back. Those mountains make these look like gentle swales. What elevation are you at in Bishkek?
I still can't understand how is it possible to walk 12 miles! I would call a walk maybe around 2 miles, and that is a long walk ;))
