The 25th of March was the 65th anniversary of the start of
Operation Priboi in which the Soviet MVD forcibly deported nearly 95,000 Lithuanians, Latvians, and Estonians to
Siberia. Here they came under the
special settlement regime as
permanent 'evictees.' This massive crime against humanity is one of the primary reasons that the people of the Baltic States have always been wary of Russia.
