It appears that my first post was not quite correct. According to this
article Suprun received a monetary fine and Dudarev a suspended sentence of one year and probation. So he is actually not being sent to prison, at least not yet. Even so it is now illegal in Russia to publish "private data" from the archives meaning in this case information on the identity of Stalin's victims. The searches, confiscation of materials, trial, and punishment of fines and probation against historians and archivists is still a very bad mark on the Putin regime even though I am glad that Suprun and Dudarev remain at liberty.
