I just finished reading the short collection of essays, Craig Calhoun,
Nationalism (Buckingham, UK: Open University Press, 1997). One of the great strengths of this collection is its review of other peoples theories and its use of a wide variety of historical examples. In particular the book makes frequent reference to the development of nationalism in France, Germany, China, India and Eritrea among other places. I will be assigning a piece by Calhoun for my class on Nationalism, Race and ethnicity next semester.
