Otto, congrats on your appointment. Good to be recognized for good work. Concerning the new faculty in your department, I have wondered what attracts faculty to Ghana, and about teaching salaries there? Does the university pay a livable wage? Relative to Bishkek, of course?
Ghana is probably the most livable country in Africa. It has a very low crime rate and it is politically very stable. The salary alone is over double what AUCA paid plus UG gives free housing and there is socialized medicine comparable to the UK here. On top of that food costs are overall lower here. So the standard of living is about three to four times higher.
