Thanksgiving in Arivaca
Yesterday, my uncle and I went to the annual Thanksgiving potluck dinner at the community center. There were a lot of people there and a huge amount of very good food. I had dark turkey, fresh cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, two kinds of gravy, salad, sweet potatoes, pickles, bread, pecan pie and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. It ranks as one of the best meals I have had this year.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia so I'm a little curious, is this normal? Do lots of community centres put on a meal? Or is this unique to Arivaca? Is it funded by the community centre or do you have to pay to go?
Susan, usually Thanksgiving is celebrated by extended families. I have never before participated in a communal Thanksgiving like they have here in Arivaca. There is no charge for the dinner. It is all done by donation. Each family brings a dish to share. My uncle and I brought a huge salad.
Hi Otto....
You old friend Djene the Kurdi from London. Are you celebrating 'native genocide day'....
Hehehehe
Regards from Istanbul!
Djene:
How is Istanbul? Any job openings in Kurdistan I should apply for?
