To all of my American readers both at home and abroad I wish you a happy Independence Day. The US is now officially 230 years old. That is over three times as long as the Soviet experiment embraced by many American academics lasted.
A lot of US academics had a very positive attitude towards the Soviet regime that replaced the Russian Empire in 1917. They deliberately minimized the crimes committed by Lenin and Stalin and painted the USSR in a favorable light. Some still do today.
